ODE TO BOWEN

Sun dries washing on the line
Sea envelops you in the dappled light
Garden delights your watchful eye
Stars dot the blackest sky
Flowers scent the cool night air
Quiet breathes a lullaby
Sleep is very close at hand
Dreams roll in upon the shore

Awake…
in this house by the sea
listening to the winds
rage around me
howling, whipping, chastising
electric wires plucked and singing
by the easterly harpies who
pass by
flapping curtains, shuddering blinds
lifting rafters till they creak
frothing surf to batter
the outer shore
while gulls and terns and dotterels
hunker down neath twisted limbs
of outstretched pohutekawa trees
down on the estuary
escaping the wrath
that grounds them
from the starless sky
…and I, this flightless bird
lie awake
in this groaning house
by the sea

MEMORY TOKENS
Avril Trudeau-Bai

I always had friends
even when times were bad
but as the years passed by
my mind filled with memories
to offset
their absence

When the sun is setting
or some music is playing
when a face or smile or laugh
brings them home
their essence
despite the lack of them
is stored as a
memory token
of a time gone by

LUNALESQUE
Avril Trudeau-Bai

Lie in the arms of darkness
enveloped in the nights sweet lust
nakedness shared with a million stars
orgasmic as the milky way
Caresses as soft as a cosmic breath
kisses from the inner core
sighs from love’s exhilaration
adrift with moonlight on our breasts
